Ihre Borke juckte langsam wie wild, langsam tauten ihre Bahnen wieder auf und ihr Stamm knarzte lustvoll. Überall brache ihr wie Pickel Knospen aus um dann schrillbunt zu erbrechen. Wenn nur nicht diese Köter wären, aber irgendwann würde Renate es ihnen mit den Wurzeln geben, oder dann im Herbst Früchte genau dann über ihnen abzuwerfen wenn…
Auch etwas verholzt? Oder schon voll erblüht? So oder so kommt zum legendären, einzigartigen Renate Comic-Stammtisch! Wie immer um 19:00 Uhr in der Renate-Comicbibliothek Tucholskystraße 32, diesmal am Montag den 11. Mai!
Diesmal mit Wimmelbild Release-Party von Caro zum 39. jährigen Jubiläums der Bolle-Stürmung in X-Berg am Maifeuertag.

If only it weren’t for those mutt-like creatures, but eventually Renate would give them a taste of her roots, or perhaps in autumn she’d drop fruit right on top of them just when…
A bit woody too? Or already in full bloom? Either way, come along to the legendary, one-of-a-kind Renate Comic Regulars’ Table! As always at 7 pm at the Renate Comic Library, Tucholskystraße 32, this time on Monday 11 May!
This time featuring a Wimmelbild release party hosted by Caro to mark the 39th anniversary of the storming of the Bolle in X-Berg on May Day.

Im Mai stellt sich unser liebes Renate-Mitglied Caro, Künstlerinname "foxitalic", als Mentorin des digitalen Stammtischs der Comicbibliothek Renate vor. Wenn ihr ab und zu im Laden seid, kennt ihr vielleicht das ein oder andere ihrer bunteren und lustigeren Werke. Bisher hat foxitalic nur einen längeren Comic veröffentlicht, »die Welt ging immer unter«. Es geht in diesem Sachcomic um die Klima- und andere Krisen und um die Frage, ob apokalyptische Narrative angesichts der derzeit stattfindenden Umweltkatastrophe angemessen, übertrieben, hilfreich, oder deprimierend und kontraproduktiv sind. foxitalic beschäftigt sich seit vielen Jahren mit diesen Fragen - nicht nur künstlerisch sondern auch in ihrem klimapolitischen Engagement. So gibt sie beispielsweise Workshops zu Klimathemen mit dem Kipppunkt Kollektiv. Außerdem wirkt Caro seit vielen Jahren als eine der Organisator*innen des Berliner Comicfestivals ComicInvasion mit.

This May, our dear Renate member Caro —who goes by the artist name "foxitalic"—will be serving as a mentor for the Renate Comic Library's digital meetup. If you've stopped by the shop from time to time, you might recognize one or two of her more colorful and humorous works. So far, foxitalic has published only one longer comic, "Die Welt ging immer unter" (The World Always Came to an End). This non-fiction comic deals with the climate crisis and other crises, and with the question of whether apocalyptic narratives—in light of the environmental catastrophe currently unfolding—are appropriate, exaggerated, helpful, or depressing and counterproductive. foxitalic has been grappling with these questions for many years—not only artistically but also through her climate activism. For example, she leads workshops on climate issues with the Kipppunkt Kollektiv. Caro has also been one of the organizers of the Berlin comic festival ComicInvasion for many years.

ANALOG: Mo. 13. April ab 19h Comicstammtisch/ Comicmeeting

Es verzog die Platine: schon wieder gab es zu Mittag Renate! Es Fallrohr zogen sich um 5 Klanks zusammen. Wieso musste die Konstruktorin 85/Cx immer so eine seltsames Energiesubstrate ins Getriebe streuen? War das wenigstens rein chemisch, oder mechanisch? Am Ende war der Frass aus der Dose sogar human, sowas wollte es gar nicht anschrauben da zogen es alle Schrauben zusammen! Hauptsache am Ende zitterten es nicht die Ausleger beim zeichnen…
Na auch beim verfassen von Robotercomics? Beim mechanischen Zeichnen von industriellen Comics? Maschine oder nicht, seid herzlich willkommen beim einzigartigen legendären Comic-Stammtisch in der Renate. Diesmal am Montag den 13. April um 19:00 Uhr in der Renate-Comicbibliothek Tucholskystraße 32.

The circuit board warped: it was Renate for lunch again! The downpipes contracted by 5 Klanks. Why did the designer 85/Cx always have to scatter such strange energy substrates into the gearbox? Was it at least purely chemical, or mechanical? In the end, the grub from the tin was actually quite decent; it didn’t want to screw anything on at all, so all the screws tightened up! The main thing was that the arms didn’t shake when drawing…
Well, even when writing robot comics? When doing technical drawings for industrial comics? Machine or not, you’re very welcome to the unique, legendary comic get-together at the Renate. This time on Monday 13 April at 7 pm in the Renate Comic Library, Tucholskystraße 32.

Mo. 6.04 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Shevek K. Selbert

Die jährlichen Gewinner*innen des renommierten Comicbuchpreises der Berthold-Leibinger-Stiftung bekommen 25.000 Euro, um an einem Comicbuch zu arbeiten. Aber das ist erst der Anfang: In Absprache mit der Stiftung ergänzen wir den Preis mit einer finanziell bescheideneren, aber freundlich gemeinten Einladung fürs Mentoring-Programm der Comicbibliothek Renate. Und der Glückliche dieses Jahr ist Shevek K. Selbert, oder besser gesagt, Dr. Shevek K. Selbert, der im April als Mentor auf unserem digitalen Stammtisch erscheinen wird: 1981 geboren, studierte er Philosophie und Pädagogik an der Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, 2023 promovierte er an der Medizinischen Fakultät der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg im Breisgau. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen im Zusammenhang zwischen Biografie, Identität und Erzählen. In seinem mit dem Comicpreis ausgezeichneten Doppelband erzählt er aus der Kindheit und Jugend seiner leiblichen Mutter bis zu seiner Geburt und im zweiten Teil über seine eigene Kindheit im Junkie Haushalt.

ENGLISH:

The annual winners of the prestigious comic book award from the Berthold Leibinger Foundation receive 25,000 euros to work on a comic book. But that’s just the beginning: By arrangement with the foundation, we supplement the prize with a modest but well-intentioned invitation to the Renate Comic Library’s mentoring program. And this year’s lucky winner is Shevek K. Selbert—or rather, Dr. Shevek K. Selbert—who will appear as a mentor at our digital meetup in April: Born in 1981, he studied philosophy and education at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and earned his doctorate in 2023 from the Medical Faculty of the University of Freiburg in 2023. His research focuses on the connection between biography, identity, and storytelling. In his two-volume work, which won the aforementioned comic book award, he recounts his biological mother’s childhood and youth up to his birth, and in the second part, his own childhood in a junkie household.

ANALOG: Mo. 09. März ab 19h Comicstammtisch/ Comicmeeting

Funken flogen, die Flex jaulte. Die Stange schwankte noch, drei Schläge mit den Hammer und das Gutter stand. Renates Latzhose fing zu schmoren an, schnell löschte sie mit den Eimer Deckweiss, die Nägel ausspuckend. Warum, warum war sie nur auf die Idee gekommen den ersten Dreidimensionalen Comic zu MERZen?
Grabt Ihr auch im März Merzbauten? Merz ihr schon oder zeichnet ihr noch? Dann kommt doch zum einzigartigen, legendären Renate Comic-Stammtisch. Wie immer in der Comicbibliothek RENATE, Tucholskystraße 32 am Montag den 9. März, 19:00 Uhr.

Sparks flew, the angle grinder whined. The pole was still wobbling, three blows with the hammer and the gutter was in place. Renate's overalls started to smoulder, she quickly extinguished them with the bucket of whitewash, spitting out the nails. Why, why did she ever get the idea to MERZ the first three-dimensional comic?

Mo. 2.03 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Michael Wießler

Zur 70. Sitzung des digitalen Stammtischs der Comicbibliothek Renate ehren wir einen wichtigen Akteur der Comicszene, mit dem wir ständig zu tun haben und der meistens nicht die verdiente Sichtbarkeit bekommt: der Buchhändler! Und einer der Bekanntesten ist Michael Wießler aka Micha von Modern Graphics. 1964 in Süddeutschland geboren, eröffnete er 1991 Modern Graphics in der Oranienstraße 22 in Berlin-Kreuzberg, 1997 eine zweite Filiale im Europacenter und 2016 eine dritte in der Kastanienallee 79. 2026 feiert Modern Graphics also 35 Jahre seines Bestehens und ist dadurch genauso alt wie unsere Renate! Lass uns zusammen feiern!

At the 70th meeting of the digital meetup of the Comics Library Renate, we honor an important player in the comic scene, one we deal with constantly and who usually doesn't get the visibility he deserves: the bookseller! And one of the best known is Michael Wießler, aka Micha from Modern Graphics. Born in southern Germany in 1964, he opened Modern Graphics at Oranienstraße 22 in Berlin-Kreuzberg in 1991, followed by a second branch in the Europacenter in 1997 and a third at Kastanienallee 79 in 2016. Therefore, Modern Graphics celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2026, making it the same age as our Renate! Let's celebrate together!
