ANALOG: Mo. 12. Oktober ab 19h Comicstammtisch/ Comicmeeting

Der Motor röhrte, Renate wurde auf den harten Sitz auf und abgestoßen. Der riesige Traktor setzte sich in Bewegung und pflügte durch das Braune Feld wie ein kugelgelagertes Nudelholz durch einen Blaubeerkuchen. Glücklich begann Renate das Lied der Ritzeroder-Runkelrübenroppmaschine zu summen, fantastische Ideen für ihren nächsten Comic entfalteten sich in der frischen Landluft, eine Wolke Dreck wie die Blähungen der Rindviecher zog sich hinter ihren Trecker her und löste sich hellleuchtend in der Oktobersonne auf.
Auch Lust auf Treckerfahren? Dann kommt doch zu legendären Renate-Comicstammtisch. Lasst uns über Zeichnungen grün-rot-bunte Landmaschinen reden, die Hopfenernte einfahren und Golabeeren geniessen. Wie immer um 19:00 Uhr in der Renate-Comicbibliothek, am Montag den 12. Oktober, Tucholskystraße 32.

The engine roared, and Renate was jolted up onto the hard seat. The huge tractor set off, ploughing through the brown field like a ball-bearing-fitted rolling pin through a blueberry cake. Delighted, Renate began to hum the song of the Ritzeroder-Runkelrübenroppmaschine; fantastic ideas for her next comic unfolded in the fresh country air, whilst a cloud of dirt, like the farts of cattle, trailed behind her tractor and dissolved, glowing brightly, in the October sun.

Mo. 5.10 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Tobi Dahmen

Um wahre Geschichten geht es auf dem digitalen Stammtisch der Comicbibliothek Renate im Oktober. Der Mentor Tobi Dahmen wurde 1971 in Frankfurt/Main geboren, wuchs in Wesel am Rhein auf und studierte Visuelle Kommunikation in Düsseldorf. Seine zuerst als Webcomic veröffentlichte, überwiegend autobiografische Comicgeschichte »Fahrradmod« erschien 2015 in Buchform bei Carlsen. 2024 veröffentlichte Tobi Dahmen, der mittlerweile im niederländischen Utrecht lebt, seine Graphic Novel »Columbusstraße«, in der er die Geschichten seiner Familie während und nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg aufarbeitet. Sein allerletztes Werk ist »Al-Fazia' – Das Grauen: Überleben in Syriens Gefängnissen«, ein Interviewcomic über einen syrischen Studenten, der unter Assad inhaftiert und gefoltert wurde und dann als Geflüchteter nach Deutschland kam.

True stories will be the focus at the digital meetup of the Renate Comic Library in October. Mentor Tobi Dahmen was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1971, grew up in Wesel on the Rhine, and studied visual communication in Düsseldorf. His largely autobiographical comic "Fahrradmod," first published as a webcomic, was released in book form by Carlsen in 2015. In 2024, Tobi Dahmen—who now lives in Utrecht, the Netherlands—published his graphic novel "Columbusstraße," in which he explores his family’s stories during and after World War II. His most recent work is "Al-Fazia’ – The Horror: Surviving in Syria’s Prisons," an interview-based comic about a Syrian student who was imprisoned and tortured under Assad and then came to Germany as a refugee.

Die Wogen türmten sich wolkenkratzerhoch, das Meer schäumte wie Deckweiss. Doch Renates Magen hielt stand – dank der des magischen  Seekrankheitskaugummi. Der Tintenfisch verspätete sich – typisch Meeresbewohner und wo sollte jetzt ihre Tinte herkommen? Die Schiffstaufe für ihren Seeräuberinnen-Comic stand fest mit Präsidentingattin, Champus und Seejungmänner waren fest gebucht…
Auch auf der Suche nach der Supertinte? Dann reist doch mal zum legendären, einzigartigen Renate-Comicstammtisch! Wie immer um 19:00 Uhr in der Renate-Comicbibliothek, am Montag den 14. September, Tucholskystraße 32.

The waves towered as high as skyscrapers, the sea foamed like deck white. Yet Renate’s stomach held firm – thanks to the magical seasickness chewing gum. The octopus was running late – typical of sea creatures – and where on earth was she supposed to get her ink from now? The launch party for her female pirate comic was all set, with the President’s wife, champagne and mermen all confirmed…

Mo. 7.09 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Roya Soraya

Im September reisen wir von Deutschland in den Iran und dann zurück auf dem digitalen Stammtisch der Comicbibliothek Renate. Auf dieser Comicreise werden wir von der Mentorin Roya Soraya begleitet: 1996 in Hannover geboren, studierte sie an der Folkwang Universität der Künste und arbeitet als freischaffende Illustratorin und Comic-Autorin in Wuppertal. Ihr Comic-Debüt hatte sie 2022 mit der queerfeministischen Graphic-Novel-Neuerzählung von »Faust«, und sie wurde für ihre Arbeit unter anderem mit Stipendien des Berliner Senats und des Goethe-Instituts gefördert. Ihre autobiografische Graphic Novel »Wind in meinem Kopftuch« (2026) erzählt von der Reise einer jungen Frau in den Iran, mit dem Ziel ihre Wurzeln kennenzulernen.

In September, we’ll travel from Germany to Iran and back again at the digital meetup of the Renate Comic Library. On this comic journey, we’ll be accompanied by our mentor, Roya Soraya: born in Hanover in 1996, she studied at the Folkwang University of the Arts and works as a freelance illustrator and comic writer in Wuppertal. She made her comic debut in 2022 with a queer-feminist graphic novel retelling of "Faust," and her work has been supported by grants from the Berlin Senate and the Goethe-Institut, among others. Her autobiographical graphic novel "Wind in meinem Kopftuch" ("Wind in My Headscarf," 2026) tells the story of a young woman’s journey to Iran, with the goal of discovering her roots.

ANALOG: Mo. 10. August 2026 ab 19h Comicstammtisch/ Comicmeeting

RenAHHHHH – sagt Renate der weissbekittelteten Sadistin ins Gesicht. „Wann haben sie die schwarzen Punkte bemerkt?“ fragte das Geschöpf unter der Maske. Renate konnte förmlich die Zahnräder hinter der Stirn mit Lampe rattern hören: Beulenpest, Leberzirrhose, Spunk? Das sah gar nicht gut aus, jetzt schwang die Kittel auch noch den Hammer – Renates Knie zuckte und ZACK!
Auch Probleme beim Entfernen von Tuscheflecken? Farbe, Tusche, Print lasst uns über Flecken beim Comic-Zeichnen austauschen!
Wie immer um 19:00 Uhr in der Renate-Comicbibliothek, Montag den 10. August, Tucholskystraße 32.

“AHHHHH,” Renate shouted in the face of the sadist in the white coat. “When did you notice the black spots?” asked the creature beneath the mask. Renate could literally hear the cogs rattling behind her forehead, illuminated by a lamp: bubonic plague, cirrhosis of the liver, spunk? It didn’t look good at all; now the woman in the lab coat was even wielding a hammer – Renate’s knee jerked and BAM!
Any trouble removing ink stains too? Paint, ink, print – let’s chat about stains when drawing comics!

Mo. 3.08 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Alexander Braun

Auf dem digitalen Stammtisch der Comicbibliothek Renate im August beschäftigen wir uns kunstgeschichtlich mit Comics. Dr. Alexander Braun, unser Mentor, ist Kunsthistoriker, bildender Künstler und Kurator sowie Begründer der German Academy of Comic Art. Dr. Braun erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen und Stipendien und hat in den letzten beiden Jahrzehnten eine der umfangreichsten Sammlungen zur Geschichte des Comics zusammengetragen, hinzu kommen eine Vielzahl an von ihm kuratierten Ausstellungen. Darunter 2009 die Ausstellung »Jahrhundert der Comics – Die Zeitungs-Strip-Jahre«, 2011 die umfassende Retrospektive zum Werk von Winsor McCay sowie 2021 die Ausstellung zum Werk Will Eisners. 2022 folgten mit »Horror im Comic« und »125 Jahre Katzenjammer Kids« zwei weitere Ausstellungen in Dortmund, seiner Heimatstadt. Die dazugehörenden Publikationen sind in unterschiedlichen Verlagen erschienen.

At the digital meetup of the Renate Comic Library in August, we’ll be exploring comics from an art-historical perspective. Our mentor, Dr. Alexander Braun, is an art historian, visual artist, and curator, as well as a founder of the German Academy of Comic Art. Dr. Braun has received numerous awards and fellowships and, over the past two decades, has assembled one of the most extensive collections on the history of comics, in addition to curating a large number of exhibitions. These include the 2009 exhibition "The Century of Comics—The Newspaper Strip Years," the 2011 comprehensive retrospective on the work of Winsor McCay, and the 2021 exhibition on Will Eisner’s work. In 2022, two further exhibitions followed in Dortmund, his hometown: "Horror in Comics" and "125 Years of the Katzenjammer Kids." The accompanying publications have been released by various publishers.
