Einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr wünscht jeder. Wir im Gegenteil wünschen einen guten Rutsch in die neue Saison der Stammtische der Comicbibliothek Renate. Und die erste digitale Sitzung im Jahr 2026 wird von einer Mentorin präsentiert, die Comics wirklich ernst nimmt: Barbara M. Eggert ist eine deutsche Kunsthistorikerin, Comicforscherin und Rektorin der Merz Akademie, einer Hochschule für Gestaltung, Kunst und Medien in Stuttgart, wo vor Kurzem eine innovative Comic-Professur ausgerufen wurde. Barbara M. Eggert studierte Germanistik und Kunstgeschichte an der Universität Hamburg. 2010 wurde sie promoviert. Seit 2019 gehört Barbara M. Eggert zum Kernteam des internationalen NEXTCOMIC-Festivals in Linz, dazu ist sie Vorstandsmitglied der AG Comicforschung – Gesellschaft für Medienwissenschaft. Dazu zeichnet sie und nimmt gern an Comic-Veranstaltungen teil, wo sie als Comiczeichnerin unter dem Namen Eggy bekannt ist.

Everyone wishes you a happy new year. We, on the other hand, wish you a happy start to the new season of the meetups of the Comics Library Renate. And the first digital meetup in 2026 will be presented by a mentor who takes comics very seriously: Barbara M. Eggert is a German art historian, comics researcher, and rector of the Merz Academy, a university for design, art, and media in Stuttgart, where an innovative  professorship for comics was recently announced. Barbara M. Eggert studied German language and literature and art history at the University of Hamburg. She earned her doctorate in 2010. Since 2019, Barbara M. Eggert has been part of the core team of the international NEXTCOMIC festival in Linz, and she is also a board member of the working group for comics research at the German Society for Media Studies. In addition, she draws and enjoys attending comics events, where she is known as a comics artist under the name Eggy.

Renates Warze auf der Nase zirpte – war das ein Wetterumschwung oder dieser Geruch? Rosen oder reudiger Köter? Rosmarin? Frischer Beton? Der Typ da vorne hatte jedenfals bestimmt nichts gerochen mit seiner eckigen Zinken, eher die da mit der pyramidalen Nase. Brauchte es dazu eine Gurken-Nase, Kiemen oder Löcher – ach egal, Hauptsache sie bekam die Gegendemonstranten allesamt gezeichnet ohne Überzeichnungen…
Nasenzeichprobleme? Dann kommt zum einzigartigen Renate-Stammtisch! Wie immer Tucholskystraße 32 in der Comicbibliothek RENATE am Montag den 8. Dezember, 19:00 Uhr.

Renate's wart on her nose twitched – was it a change in the weather or that smell? Roses or a mangy mutt? Rosemary? Fresh concrete? The guy up front definitely hadn't smelled anything with his square snout, but the one with the pyramid-shaped nose probably had. Did it need a cucumber nose, gills or holes – oh well, the main thing was that she got all the counter-demonstrators drawn without exaggeration...
Nose drawing problems? Then come to the unique Renate regulars' table! As always, Tucholskystraße 32 in the RENATE comic library on Monday, 8 December, 7 p.m.

Mo. 1.12 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Hannah Brinkmann

Die wahren Geschichten kommen am Ende, daher widmen wir uns auf der letzten Sitzung des digitalen Stammtischs der Comicbibliothek Renate im Jahr 2025 ganz der Nonfiktion: Die Mentorin Hannah Brinkmann studierte grafische Erzählung an der Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften bei Anke Feuchtenberger und war 2017 Teil des Sitka Fellows Programm in Alaska, wo sie die Recherche für ihre erste Graphic Novel »Gegen mein Gewissen« begann. Ihr für den Leibinger-Preis nominiertes Debüt, 2020 im avant-verlag erschienen, arbeitet das Schicksal ihres Onkels auf, das in den 1970ern bundesweit Schlagzeilen machte und eine Debatte über die Rechtmäßigkeit der Gewissensprüfung bei der Kriegsdienstverweigerung auslöste. 2024 erschien ihr neues Buch »Zeit heilt keine Wunden«, eine Graphic-Novel über den Shoah-Überlebenden Ernst Grube, dessen bewegten Lebensweg sie zusammen mit dem Zeitzeugen recherchiert und aufarbeitet. Hannah Brinkmanns Comics erschienen unter anderem im Strapazin, in der TAZ und im Tagesspiegel.

The true stories come at the end, that is reason we are dedicating the last meeting of the digital meetup of the Comics Library Renate in 2025 entirely to nonfiction: Mentor Hannah Brinkmann studied graphic storytelling at the University of Applied Sciences under Anke Feuchtenberger and was part of the Sitka Fellows Program in Alaska in 2017, where she began researching for her first graphic novel, "Gegen mein Gewissen" (Against My Conscience). Her debut, which was nominated for the Leibinger Prize and published by avant-verlag in 2020, explores the fate of her uncle, which made headlines across Germany in the 1970s and triggered a debate about the legality of conscientious objection to military service. In 2024, her new book "Zeit heilt keine Wunden" (Time Does Not Heal All Wounds) was published, a graphic novel about Shoah survivor Ernst Grube, whose eventful life she researched and documented together with the eyewitness. Hannah Brinkmann's comics have appeared in Strapazin, TAZ, and Tagesspiegel, among others.

ANALOG: Mo. 10. November ab 19h Comicstammtisch/ Comicmeeting

Der Eiswürfel war schon wieder weggeschmolzen. Wie sollte Renate ihren Cuba Libre genießen wenn die ganze Zeit das Eis sich in lauwarmes Wasser verwandelte? Sie winkte den Kellner auf der anderen Seite des Pools, natürlich schaute der den hübschen Touristen auf den… aber es war eh zu heiss unterm Sonnenschirm – vielleicht ein Sprung – na auch Sequenzen von Cluburlaub in der Karibik in Kopf? Erkältet, Farbenblind, durchnässt und verfroren in Berlin? Da müsst ihr durch wenn ihr zum legendären Renate-Stammtisch kommen wollt!
Wie immer Tucholskystraße 32 in der Comicbibliothek RENATE am Montag den 10. November, 19:00 Uhr, mit und ohne schlechten Bier.

The ice cube had melted away again. How was Renate supposed to enjoy her Cuba Libre when the ice kept turning into lukewarm water? She waved to the waiter on the other side of the pool, who naturally looked at the pretty tourist... but it was too hot under the parasol anyway – maybe a dip – well, maybe some images of a club holiday in the Caribbean in your head? Cold, colour blind, soaked and frozen in Berlin? You'll have to put up with it if you want to come to the legendary Renate regulars' table!

Mo. 3.11 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Sebastian Strombach

Renate ist ein bekannter Name für die Stammtisch-Besucher*innen, und für den vorletzten digitalen Stammtisch der Comicbibliothek Renate im Jahr 2025 haben wir einen Mentor geholt, dessen Namen auch bekannt ist und in starker Verbindung mit dem Stammtisch steht: Sebastian Strombach ist ein Enthusiast des Formats und besucht jedes digitale Treffen, dazu betreut er den Stammtisch vor Ort. Was aber nicht viele wissen, ist, dass er neben diesen Haupttätigkeiten auch andere Sachen macht - manchmal sogar mit Comics! Er studierte Architektur etwa, arbeitete als Bauarbeiter, Architekt, Tutor, Stadtführer, Komparse, Szenenbildner, Modellbauer, Storyboarder, Illustrator und Schildermacher. In seiner Freizeit hat er, um sich zu entspannen, Comicbücher mit architektonischen Ansätzen veröffentlicht, zu Berlin aber auch zu Köln. Auf dem digitalen Stammtisch wird er erzählen, wie man von Comics bessesen wird.

Renate is a familiar name for the visitors of its meetups, and for the penultimate digital meetup of the Comics Library Renate in 2025, we brought in a mentor whose name is also well known and closely associated with the digital meetup: Sebastian Strombach is an enthusiast of the format and attends every digital meeting, as well as he organizes the meetups on site. But what not many people know is that he also does other things besides these main activities — sometimes even with comics! He studied architecture, worked as a construction worker, architect, tutor, city guide, extra, set designer, model builder, storyboarder, illustrator, and sign maker. In his free time, he relaxes by publishing comics books with architectural approaches, on Berlin and Cologne. At the digital meetup, he will talk about how to become obsessed with comics.

ANALOG: Mo. 13. Oktober ab 19h Comicstammtisch/ Comicmeeting

Das hatte Renate gefürchtet. Nach wochenlangen nervenzerfetzenden Warten, Schlangestehen am Kiosk, verjubeln ihres letzten Cent für ein bedrucktes Blatt Papierwerbung, war endlich der vermaledeite Artikel erschienen. Über IHREN Comic. Jetzt war sie ein Star der in der Zeitung steht. Doch jetzt stand geschrieben: SCHWURBEL-SEUFZ-BATSCH! Immerhin nicht CCCHRR! Nicht so schlecht…bis ächz! AAAAH! Mit A! Nicht E. Renata.
Seid ihr auch Singvögel im Zeitungs-Strip? Oder ist es schon zu spät? Wie auch immer mit und ohne Presse kommt zum legendären Renate mit E Comicstammtisch. In der Tucholskystraße 32 in der Comicbibliothek RENATE am Montag den 13. Oktober, 19:00 Uhr.

That was what Renate had feared. After weeks of nerve-wracking waiting, queuing at the kiosk, spending her last penny on a printed piece of advertising paper, the damned article had finally appeared. About HER comic. Now she was a star in the newspaper. But now it said: SCHWURBEL-SEUFZ-BATSCH! At least it wasn't ZZzzzz! Not so bad... until ouch! AAAAH! With an A! Not an E. Renata.
