Weiss. Alles Weiss. Nur weisse Flächen kein Himmel, kein Boden. Die Wölfe heulten und der Wind pfiff. Die eisige Weiten waren erdrückend weit und doch eng. Da nahm Renate ihre Feder und zog eine schwarze Linie durch das ewige Weiss.

White. All white. Only white areas, no sky, no ground. The wolves howled and the wind whistled. The icy expanses were oppressively wide and yet narrow. Renate took her pen and drew a black line through the eternal white.
Afraid of the white page? Drawing blocks? Don't worry! The Comicstammtisch will help you! As always on Mondays from 19:00, this time on 10 February 2025 in the Renate Comic Library, Tucholskystraße 32.

Mo. 3.02 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Christoph Fischer

Auf dem zweiten digitalen Stammtisch der Comicbibliothek Renate in diesem Jahr reisen wir sowohl in die Welt der Träume als auch in die der Reportagen. Denn der Mentor Christoph Fischer aus Luzern probierte beides. Während eines halben Jahres etwa zeichnete er fünfundzwanzig Mal vor Ort am Hauptbahnhof in Luzern Jugendliche, Punks, Alkoholiker, Drogenabhängige und andere. Entstanden ist daraus die 60-teilige gezeichnete Reportage »Auf der langen Bank«. »Chicago Westside« wiederum ist eine 230-teilige Reportage über einen Stadteil, der am meisten durch Probleme wie Armut, Drogen und Gewaltverbrechen geprägt ist. Seit 2007 skizziert Christoph Fischer aber auch seine Träume. Das Buch »Während ich schlief« versammelt 51 dieser skurrilen Geschichten als ausgearbeitete Bleistiftzeichnungen. Christoph Fischer arbeitet als freischaffender Illustrator und Dozent für Zeichnung in Luzern.

ENGLISH:

At the second digital meetup of the Comics Library Renate this year, we will travel to the world of dreams as well as to the world of reportage. Mentor Christoph Fischer from Lucerne tried both. Over the course of six months, he drew teenagers, punks, alcoholics, drug addicts and other people twenty-five times on location at Lucerne's main railway station. The result is the 60-part drawn reportage "On the Long Bench." "Chicago Westside," on the other hand, is a 230-part reportage about a neighborhood that is most characterized by problems such as poverty, drugs and violent crime. Since 2007, Christoph Fischer has also been sketching his dreams. The book "While I Was Sleeping" brings together 51 of these bizarre stories as elaborate pencil drawings. Christoph Fischer works as a freelance illustrator and lecturer in drawing in Lucerne.

Grauenhafte Monster tauchten aus den grauen Nebel auf – Monster mit blutrünstigen Grauen Wölfen an der Leine?
Renate schlang sich ihren buntviolett-lila Schal enger ums Gesicht und hustete mutig in die kalte graubraune Masse heraus.
Die alte Frau mit den Rollator zog ganz dicht an ihr vorbei und verschwand wieder im Nebel…

Horrible monsters emerged from the grey mist - monsters with bloodthirsty grey wolves on a leash?
Renate wrapped her colourful violet-purple scarf tighter around her face and coughed bravely into the cold grey-brown mass.
The old woman with the walking frame passed very close to her and disappeared into the mist again...

Mo. 6.01 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Nora Krug

Das neue Jahr ist da, und um die Saison 2025 der digitalen Stammtische der Comicbibliothek Renate zu eröffnen, haben wir eine Mentorin aus den USA eingeladen. Aber nicht ganz von dort. Denn Nora Krug ist eine deutsche Migrantin und thematiesiert ihr Heimat in ihrem Werk. Geboren 1977 in Karlsruhe, studierte sie Bühnenbild, Dokumentarfilm und Illustration in Liverpool, Berlin und New York. Ihre Zeichnungen und Bildergeschichten erscheinen regelmäßig in großen Tageszeitungen und Magazinen (u.a. The New York Times, The Guardian, Le Monde diplomatique). Ihr Debüt »Heimat. Ein deutsches Familienalbum« feierte als internationales Buchereignis einzigartige Erfolge, in den USA wurde es mit dem National Book Critics Award ausgezeichnet und in Deutschland 2022 zur Schullektüre ernannt. Krug ist Professorin für Illustration an der Parsons School of Design in New York und lebt in Brooklyn.

The new year is here, and to kick off the 2025 season of the digital meetups of the Comics Library Renate, we've invited a mentor from the USA. But not quite from there. Nora Krug is a German immigrant and addresses her homeland in her work. Born in Karlsruhe in 1977, she studied stage design, documentary film and illustration in Liverpool, Berlin and New York. Her drawings and illustrated stories appear regularly in major daily newspapers and magazines (including The New York Times, The Guardian and Le Monde diplomatique).  Her debut "Belonging: A German Reckons with History and Home" was a unique international happening in the book market, winning the National Book Critics Award in the USA and being named school reading material in Germany in 2022. Krug is a professor of illustration at the Parsons School of Design in New York and lives in Brooklyn.

 ANALOG: Mo. 09.12. ab 19h Comicstammtisch/ Comicmeeting

Renate schluckte. Die Fahrstuhltür glitt auf und der Comic-Tycoon Harry W. stieg in die Kabine. Jetzt hatte Renate 2,5 Sekunden Zeit ihr Comic-Projekt an der sie seit sieben Jahren zeichnete anzupreisen.
Die Stockwerkslichter zogen vorbei, wiewaswodurch? Der Klingelton ertönte – Renate schraubte ihr Tuschefass auf und kippte es den Widerling über den Kopf.

Auch keine Lust auf den Elevator Pitch? Dann red doch mit lieben Menschen über Comics auf den Renate-Comicstammtisch!
Wie immer um 19:00 Uhr in der RENATE Comicbibliothek, am Montag den 9. Dezember 2024.

Renate swallowed. The lift door slid open and comic tycoon Harry W. stepped into the cabin. Renate now had 2.5 seconds to advertise the comic project she had been drawing for seven years.
The floor lights flashed by, how what? The bell rang - Renate unscrewed her inkpot and tipped it over the creep's head.

Mo. 2.12 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Lea Willimann

Zum Abschluss des Comicstammtischjahres 2024 haben wir eine Mentorin eingeladen, die uns viel über die Arbeit mit Kulturverwaltung in Sachen Comics verraten wird. Denn Lea Willimann, die u.a. für ein jährliches, 10 Tage dauerndes Comicfestival verantwortlich ist, wird das Mentoring auf der letzten Sitzung des digitalen Stammtisches der Comicbibliothek Renate übernehmen. Die Ausstellungsmacherin hat sich nach Studium (Kulturanthropologie) und Zwischenstopp im Cartoonmuseum Basel während ihrer langjährigen Tätigkeit beim Caricatura Museum Frankfurt ein Netzwerk im Bereich Cartoon, Karikaturen und Comics aufgebaut. Seit 2023 ist Lea Willimann Künstlerische Leiterin beim Fumetto Comic Festival Luzern und Co-Präsidentin des Comic Netzwerk Schweiz.

To round off the 2024 "Comic Stammtisch" year, we have invited a mentor who will tell us a lot about working with cultural administration on comics. This is because Lea Willimann, who is responsible for an annual 10-day comics festival, among other things, will be our mentor at the last session of the digital meetup of the Comics Library Renate. After studying cultural anthropology and a stopover at the Cartoonmuseum Basel, the exhibition organiser built up a network in the field of cartoons, caricatures and comics during her many years at the Caricatura Museum Frankfurt. Since 2023, Lea Willimann has been Artistic Director of the Fumetto Comics Festival Lucerne and Co-President of the Comics Network Switzerland.
