ANALOG: Mo. 08. September ab 19h Comicstammtisch/ Comicmeeting

Renate war gestresst. Ihr Lieblingspullover hatte sich nun endgültig von Viellöchrig ins letzte Loch verabschiedet, gestern hatte sie ihn begraben. Doch wo einen Neuen hernehmen? BSR, Humana, RaDa, Pappe, Latex oder pinkes Leder? Selbstgestrickt oder selbst geschossen? Angemalt oder angestochen? Vielleicht erstmal zeichnen…
Wisst ihr auch nicht was eure Comicfiguren anhaben? Muss das sein? Lasst uns über Kleid, Hose und Stoffe reden, wie immer beim Renate Comicstammtisch. In der Tucholskystraße 32 in der Comicbibliothek RENATE am Montag den 08. September, 19:00 Uhr.

Renate was stressed. Her favourite jumper had finally gone from full of holes to completely worn out, and yesterday she had buried it. But where to get a new one? BSR, Humana, RaDa, cardboard, latex or pink leather? Hand-knitted or hand-shot? Painted or stabbed? Maybe draw it first...
Don't you know what your comic characters are wearing either? Does it have to be that way? Let's talk about dresses, trousers and fabrics, as always at Renate's comic book club. At Tucholskystraße 32 in the RENATE comic book library on Monday, 8 September, 7 p.m.

Mo. 1.09 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Katja Klengel

Auf dem nächsten digitalen Stammtisch der Comicbibliothek Renate werden wir erklären, dass... Nein, nein, wir erklären doch nichts: Die Mentorin Katja Klengel selbst kommt zu Wort! Geboren 1988 in Jena, studierte sie Kunst an der HfBK Dresden und im Anschluss Drehbuch an der Dffb. Als Stipendiatin bei der Akademie für Kindermedien entwickelte sie ihr Dffb- Abschlussprojekt »Vesta«, eine Fantasy-Serie, die 2018 den MDM Preis gewann und für den First Steps Award im Bereich Drehbuch nominiert wurde. Neben ihrer Arbeit als Drehbuchautorin schreibt und zeichnet sie Comics. 2012 erschien ihr Fortsetzungs-Comic »Als ich so alt war« mit 100 Folgen in der F.A.Z. 2017 schrieb und zeichnete sie ihre feministische Comic-Kolumne »Gilrsplaining«, die 2018 als Buch herauskam und zum Bestseller wurde. Außerdem hat sie mit Thomas Wätzold "Reading Panels" gegründet, eine szenische, vertonte Comiclesung vor Publikum, die mehrmals im Jahr in Dresden und anderen Städten stattfand. Katja Klengel lebt als Drehbuchautorin und Comiczeichnerin in Berlin.

At the next digital meetup of the Comics Library Renate, we will explain that... No, no, we won't explain anything: mentor Katja Klengel herself will have her say! Born in Jena in 1988, she studied art at the HfBK Dresden and then screenwriting at the Dffb. As a scholarship holder at the Academy for Children's Media, she developed her Dffb graduation project "Vesta," a fantasy series that won the MDM Prize in 2018 and was nominated for the First Steps Award in the screenplay category. In addition to her work as a screenwriter, she writes and draws comics. In 2012, her serial comic "Als ich so alt war" (When I Was That Age) appeared in 100 episodes in the F.A.Z. In 2017, she wrote and drew her feminist comic column "Gilrsplaining," which was published as a book in 2018 and became a bestseller. She also founded "Reading Panels" with Thomas Wätzold, a scenic, soundtracked comics reading in front of an audience, which took place several times a year in Dresden and other cities. Katja Klengel lives in Berlin as a screenwriter and comic artist.

 ANALOG: Mo. 11. August ab 19h Comicstammtisch/ Comicmeeting

Nach stundenlangen Gewarte öffnete sich endlich die Tür. Der Typ in Weiss stieß eine Sprechblase aus. Renate legte sich auf die radiergummiweiche Liege und blickte durch die taubengraue Decke. Die Instrumente lagen schon bereit. Der Kittel stach zu und Renate wurde es blümerant. Ihren ersten Doktorcomic hatte sie sich irgendwie anders vorgestellt.
Lust auf kranke Comics? Pillen gegen Zeichenblockaden? Diagnosen mit schwarzer Tusche? Dann seid ihr richtig beim Renate Comicstammtisch. Wie immer in der Tucholskystraße 32 in der Comicbibliothek RENATE am Montag den 11. August, 19:00 Uhr.

After hours of waiting, the door finally opened. The guy in white uttered a speech bubble. Renate lay down on the soft rubber couch and stared at the dove-grey ceiling. The instruments were already laid out. The gown pricked her skin and Renate felt queer. She had somehow imagined her first doctor comic to be different.
Fancy some sick comics? Pills for drawer's block? Diagnoses in black ink? Then Renate Comicstammtisch is the place for you. As always, it's at Tucholskystraße 32 in the RENATE comic library on Monday, 11 August at 7 p.m.

Mo. 4.08 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Julia Bernhard

Wieder haben wir es mitten im Sommer geschafft, eine großartige Comiczeichnerin für den digitalen Stammtisch der Comicbibliothek Renate zu gewinnen. Die Mentorin im August ist Julia Bernhard. Sie studierte an der Hochschule Mainz Grafikdesign und Illustration, das sie mit Auszeichnung abschloss. Ihre Illustrationen wurden im New Yorker, The Nib, Narrative Magazine und Büchergilde Gutenberg veröffentlicht. Ihr erster Comic »Wie gut, dass wir darüber geredet haben«, der als Finalist des Comicbuchpreises der Berthold Leibinger Stiftung ausgezeichnet wurde, erschien 2019 im avant-verlag. Im Jahr 2020 erhielt sie den Max & Moritz Preis für das beste deutschsprachige Comic-Debüt.

Once again, in the middle of summer, we have managed to get a great comics artist to join the digital meetup of the Comics Library Renate. The mentor for August is Julia Bernhard. She studied graphic design and illustration at Mainz University of Applied Sciences, where she graduated with honors. Her illustrations have been published in the New Yorker, The Nib, Narrative Magazine and Büchergilde Gutenberg. Her first comic “Wie gut, dass wir darüber geredet haben,” which was a finalist for the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung Comics Book Prize, was published by avant-verlag in 2019. In 2020, she received the Max & Moritz Prize for the best German-language comics debut.

ANALOG: Mo. 14. Juli ab 19h Comicstammtisch/ Comicmeeting

Tintenschwarze Dunkelheit umgab Renate. Der Berg über ihr drückte aufs Gemüt. Tief, tief unten schufte Renate. Ihre einsame Lampe flackerte und erlosch. Ihr Vogel war schon lange verstummt. Sie atmete schwer ein und aus - warum war Comiczeichnen nur ein solches graben? Was war das? Ein Geräusch von der anderen Seite? Ein Lichtstrahl mogelte sich durch ein kleines Loch, wurde größer und größer - Durchschlag!  Hände streckten sich ihr entgegen- sie war auf der anderen Seite!
Auch allein beim Tunnelzeichnen? Dann kommt doch zum Comicstammtisch in die Renate! Wie immer in der Tucholskystraße 32 in der Comicbibliothek RENATE am Montag den 14. Juli, 19:00 Uhr.

Inky blackness surrounded Renate. The mountain above her weighed on her mind. Deep, deep down, Renate laboured. Her lonely lamp flickered and went out. Her bird had long since fallen silent. She breathed in and out heavily - why was drawing comics just such a dig? What was that? A noise from the other side? A ray of light cheated its way through a small hole, getting bigger and bigger - breakthrough!  Hands stretched out towards her - she was on the other side!
Also alone while drawing a tunnel? Then why don't you come to the comic regulars' table at the Renate! As always at Tucholskystraße 32 in the RENATE comic library on Monday 14 July at 19:00.

Mo. 7.07 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Patricia Thoma

Der Sommer beginnt mit heißen Themen auf dem digitalen Stammtisch der Comicbibliothek Renate, denn die Mentorin im Juli setzt sich für wichtige gesellschaftliche Themen ein. In Patricia Thomas Buch »Willkommen in Deutschland« etwa, erzählen zwölf Kinder aus Berliner „Willkommensklassen“ Geschichten aus ihren Heimatländern. In »Activists« werden junge Menschen vorgestellt, die aktiv die Zukunft unserer Welt mitgestalten. Ihren neusten Comic »Im Jugendarrest« hat Patricia Thoma gemeinsam mit Insassen in der Jugendarrestanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg gezeichnet und geschrieben. Patricia Thoma (geb. 1977) ist bildende Künstlerin und Bilderbuchillustratorin. Nach ihrem Kunststudium am Chelsea College of Art und Design in London, lehrte sie an Universitäten in China. Ihre Arbeiten wurden mit zahlreichen Preisen und Stipendien bedacht sowie in internationalen Ausstellungen gezeigt.

The summer begins with hot topics at the digital meetup of the Comics Library Renate, since the mentor in July is committed to important social projects. In Patricia Thoma's book "Welcome to Germany," for example, twelve migrant children talk about memories of their homeland. In "Activists," Patricia Thoma introduces young people who are actively shaping the future of our world. Her latest comic "Jugendarrest" was drawn and written together with inmates in the Berlin-Brandenburg youth detention center. Born in 1977, Patricia Thoma is a visual artist and picture book illustrator. After studying art at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, she taught at universities in China. Her work has been awarded numerous prizes and scholarships and has been shown in international exhibitions.
