DIGITAL: Mo. 3.1 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comicmeeting with Seda Demiriz

Das neue Jahr beginnt wie das letzte endete: Im ersten digitalen Stammtisch 2022 geht es um das Leben und Pixel, die Spezialität unserer Mentorin im Januar. Seda Demiriz hat in Mainz Kommunikationsdesign studiert und ist freiberufliche Grafikdesignerin und Illustratorin. An der Hochschule Mainz hat sie mehrere Semester Zeichnen unterrichtet. Neben ihrer Arbeit in vielfältigen Bereichen der Illustration (u.a. für die New York Times) beschäftigt sie sich viel mit dem Comic. Besonders interessieren sie gesellschaftliche Themen, zum Beispiel wie Technologie unseren Alltag beeinflusst – im Guten wie im Schlechten! Seit 2020 veröffentlicht sie den Webcomic »Life in Pixels«, der dieses Thema aufgreift und mit einen GINCO Award 2021 ausgezeichnet wurde. Das frühe Internet, mürrische Katzen, Tiefkühlpizza und freche Gespräche sind die Hauptzutaten in diesem Comic, in dem fünf Charakteren von Schulkindern zu jungen Erwachsenen heranwachsen.

Ihr müsst euer Gesicht nicht zeigen, wenn ihr nicht wollt, aber es wäre wichtig, dass ihr eure Zeichnungen/Entwürfe/Storyboards/Probeseiten DIGITAL bereit habt, als digitale Zeichnungen oder abfotografiert/gescannt. Dieses Onlinetreffen wird nicht aufgenommen oder gestreamt, es ist nur für euch angemeldete Comic-Künstler*Innen.

The new year begins as the last one ended: Our first monthly digital Comic Meeting Up in 2022 deals with life and pixels, the specialty of our mentor in January. Seda Demiriz studied communication design in Mainz and works as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. She taught drawing as a freelance lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz. In addition to her work in various areas of illustration (including for the New York Times), she focusses on comics and visual storytelling. She is particularly interested in societal topics, for example how technology affects our everyday lives – both in good and bad ways. Currently she is publishing the webcomic "Life in Pixels," which won a GINCO (German Inclusive/ Independent Comic Award) in 2021. The early Internet, grumpy cats, frozen pizza and snappy conversations are the key ingredients in this comic, in which five characters grow up from school kids to young adults.

please send an email with the subject line 'Stammtisch' to the Meetup coordinator Augusto (augusto [dot] paim [at] gmail [dot] com), he will send you the meeting link on the day. Add to the email what you will be showing and what topics are of interest to you. You don't have to show your face in the call if you don't want to, but have your sketches or comics ready in digital form on your computer to be able to get feedback from other comic artists and from the mentor. This online meeting will not be recorded or broadcast publicly, it is only for you artists who are participating.
